So I figured I would release my own single. Complete with remixes and live versions and all of that good stuff. It's completely unnecessary, but it was fun for me to sit through all the different versions, so on the off chance that someone might just get the same enjoyment, I thought what the heck. Doesn't cost anything for me to put together, so it doesn't cost anything to download.

Another Live recording?
Over the next few weeks we'll be posting three sets of recordings done of the acoustic show a few weeks back. It's a mix of old and new, originals material and some attempts at some other artists songs, but either way it's free music and offers some very different arrangements of some of our songs that you can only hear at live shows.
So here is the first of three sets...
Live At King Henry February 28th (right click and save target as...)
And if you like what you heard there, or in the live recording from Capital Hill, then you should definitely try and come out to one of the many upcoming live shows.
Also, the webpage has been updated in a couple of departments including a long overdue installment in the Reprisals section.
Finally, a friendly reminder that "Monkeyhouse" is still available on itunes, and if you haven't downloaded it yet, well you definitely should.
February 5th, 2009 (02/5/09)
If you have never been to a live show and you want to know what we sound like, we've gone ahead and added another live recording from one of our more recent shows that is up for free download here The Nate Pike Band - Live At Capital Hill (right click and save target as...)
More new to come shortly. Promise.
January 4th, 2009 (01/4/09)
Where to start?
The biggest news is that Monkeyhouse is now available on itunes. Which is pretty nifty for all those ipod users out there. If you don't have a copy yet, you should rush over there and get the album right now.
Seriously, right now.
The limited physical run is still available for the time being, and a paypal ordering option will be up under media in the next couple of days, so if you want the actual disc all handmade and such, better order soon.
The next biggest news is that after way to long a chunk of time, we're finally going to be doing another all ages show. The show is with Chris Gheran and the Graveyard Gand as well as the Matt Blais Connection and is at the Capitol Hill Community Hall. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door and this should be an awesome show, so there's no excuses for missing it.
Other than that, the standard new news applies. New updates on the site, a couple of new pictures, as well as a new Reprisal so take a look around and see what there is to see.
November 6th, 2008 (11/6/08)
Well I've been somewhat remiss haven't I?
The last few months have been busy to say the least. My apologies for the lack of updates, but let's see if we can't get caught up here.
First thing first, "Monkeyhouse" has finally seen a limited physical release and will be released online via itunes as well as a few other online distributers/retailers at the beginning of December. The hope is that online sales as well as the sales of the small physical release will enable us to fund a much larger scale physical release across Canada, but we'll see what we see when we see it. As it stands you can order the CD through the website under media as you would any of the rest of the catalog.
Moving right along, there have been several updates to the webpage since the last update 5 months ago (again, my apologies) so I encourage you to take a look around. There are several months worth of Reprisals as well as a new one for October with yet another for November that will be up in the next couple of days.
For shows, we've just come through a long run of shows almost every weekend (if not more) and have only a couple of them left this year. Of particular note is the 3rd annual benefit concert for The Calgary Womens Emergency Shelter on November 29th. Confirmed so far for that date are us, Swayne Dyve and Brett Spaulding with hopefully another act or two added before the big day. The cover for this show is only $10 and all proceeds go to the shelter. As well, we'll be donating 50% of all of our merch sales for the evening to the shelter as well, so it's an excellent opportunity to pick up the new CD and contribute to an excellent cause.
So that's the that. See you soon!
June 9th, 2008 (06/9/08)
Lots of exciting news to report this month. New reprisal (as usual), a couple of new tracks up on the site to download, several new shows, the new CD now in the final stages of mixing and most significantly there is a new member to the band. Dan Matsuda has joined the ranks to take the lead on guitar. He'll be joining the band for most of the upcoming shows so make sure that you say hi if you make it to any of them.
As for the shows, of particular note are the Bandwarz show on June 18th (for which we'll need as many votes as we can, so please come out and show your support) and our first show ever at The Blind Beggar two days later which we're sharing with Brett Spaulding.
That's all for now, but there will be more to come and hopefully the update won't take two months next time.
March 12th, 2008 (03/12/08)
Just a quick note to say thanks to everyone who came out for the songwriters competition at Shotz last night. Out of 8 competitors, The Nate Pike Band managed to inch our way to a win and we have moved on to the finals. Stay tuned for updates on the where and when of that show.
March 10th, 2008 (03/10/08)
Well there's the live CD. That's new.
Recorded over two nights in October 2007, there's a total of seventeen tracks that do a reasonably decent job of representing what the band sounds like live. Cause after all, it is live. Containing the best of the old and the new, it even has a couple of new songs from the upcoming studio album.
And of course, you can buy it either at the shows or through the website.
Also you can download it as well. Stroll on over to the media section of the site and every month a new track is being made available for download. To date there are three and one of them is even one of the new songs as mentioned above.
As for the shows, there are a couple coming up. One is tomorrow, one is in about a month and there are a couple more that will hopefully be announced over the next couple of weeks.
There are also two new Reprisals up since the last news update. Happy stuff, let me tell you.
And for anyone wondering, the Benefit waaaaaaaaaaay back in November was a pretty good success. Despite having three bands not show up, almost losing the venue and competing against the Grey Cup, we managed so still raise just over $1000 for CWES.
So yay for that.
Other than that, the band is now on facebook as well, so if you're a part of the facebook universe, make sure that you take a sec and add us.
November 4, 2007 (11/04/07)
Beginning of the month?
Why, that can only mean that this is yet another shameless self promoting e-mail from The Nate Pike Band. Lemme check my calandar just to be sure though...
Yup, sure is.
So read on, you faithful and patient ones...
Has the web page finally been updated? Yes, yes it sure has. There is a new very long reprisal that is up which is a bit of an oddity, but hey what can you do. Wander over to the Reprisals section and you'll find it there, waiting just for you.
And finally, after the mad flurry of shows (10 shows in two months) and the silly season quickly approaching, there is currently only one show lined up in the immediate future. But What a show it is.
Mark November 25th 2007 at 5PM on your Calanders.
Why you ask?
Well it's the 2nd Annual Nate Pike Band Calgary Womens Emergency Shelter Benefit concert (This year held at Dickens Pub) and as it stands here are 5 very good reasons for you to come out.
Playing on the 25th are:
Nourish The Grave
The Nate Pike Band
There may be another band added to the lineup as well, but we'll be sending out a couple more of these e-mails as we get closer to the show. There will be a $7 cover at the door and all of that money goes to the shelter. We will also be accepting donations at the door. In addition, we're working on a silent auction, and just like last year, there will be t-shirts for sale as well. Last years show was a fantastic night that raised over $1200 dollars to help women and children escaping physically and emtionally abusive environments. This year, our goal is to raise a minimum of $1500 and we're hoping that we'll exceed that! Dickens Pub is being extremely generous by donating the venue, the sound system, and staff for the event.
Here are some statistics for you taken from a recent stats canada report...
7% of women in canada have been the victims of spousal abusein the last 5 years. That translates into 653,000 women who have suffered abuse at the hands of a spouse over the last 5 years.
According to that same study, Alberta leads the rest of the country with 10% of the female population having been abused in the past or the present.
37% of female patients who are treated in the ER for violent injury have been injured by an intimate partner
Children in close to half a million households in Canada have seen or heard one parent being assaulted by the other
So, please come out and support this event. If you can't make it for some reason, you can contact the Calgary Womens Emergency Shelter HERE
and make a donation directly through their webpage.
September 21st, 2007 (09/20/07)
So here's another update as updates are good from time to time I am told.
After having achieved second place in the last round of Bandwars, we're going to go for broke again and our first attempt at winning over some folk and maybe some free stuff will be October 23rd, 2007. Should be a really good time (yes, I know that everyone says that) and we really need the support (and yup, I know that one gets thrown out all the time as well but in this case we actually do.
The CD is coming along well, more than 75% of the way done in fact with 8 tracks mixed and ready to go. We're also going to be recording two live shows at King Henry the 8th in October for a live CD as well. SOoo, if all goes well we might just have two new CD's out in time for Christmas.
New Reprisal is up. Read it or you'll get necrotizing fasciitis in places that you probably want to keep.
In regards to shows section I have listed the upcoming ones in the appropriately titled "Shows" section of the webpage. Also, we're hoping to have another Benefit for The Calgary Womens Emergency Shelter some time in November, so keep your eyes open for the details on that.
If you take a real look you'll see that there is in fact a show this Friday that you should come to. Despite the short notice. Or you'll catch necrotizing fasciitis.
August 3, 2007 (08/03/07)
So here's the latest and greatest news from us.
As some of you may recall The Nate Pike Band played in this years Bandwarz and despite the odds being more than a little against us we managed to come in 2nd of 36 bands. That's not a bad days work and we won free CD mastering out of the deal. So that's a nice thing to have happen. Big thanks to Roli Mack for putting the whole thing together for what I believe is now the 15th year.
Sice last newsletter, the June Reprisal did go up, but it's a long one so pack a lunch. July's is up as well now and if you've ever had a boss that you weren't terribly fond of, you should definitely check this one out. I'm starting a new thing and in a couple of months all the cool kids will be doing it.
You do want to be a cool kid don't you?
There are also pics up for the finals and as a bonus we also have some really great pics up from Alberta's Own Music Festival. We played that show on the back of four flatbed trucks so those pics are definitely worth wasting some time on.Many thanks to Danielle from www.andersonphoto.ca for those.
June 16th, 2007 (06/16/07)
Bits and pieces this month to report, so let's get to it and that will be that.
The first point of interest is in celebration of five years on the web, after much confusion and profanity I believe that there is now a functional board back up and running. It's a little sparse at the moment but we'll be tricking it out as we go.
This would normally be the part of the update where I would plug the latest reprisal. Being that this month represents five years since I first started putting those things up, you would think there would be some sort of extravaganza.
I do have an extravaganza, and I'm quite liking where it's heading, but it isn't quite done yet. Gimmie a week or two and there should be something soon.
With that out of the way, there are some new pics up from the Bandwarz on the 12th. Good news on that show by the way, turns out one good show begets another as we managed to make our way through that round and are now playing in the semi finals on June 26th. The ante is upped so we need as much support as we can get for that show. Bring your friends, your friends friends, your dog, the whole kit and kaboodle.
Also, there are some new details on our appearance at Alberta's Own music festival. We will be sharing the satge with some of Alberta's best bands as well as canadian music icons 54-40. Which is pretty cool because I used to listen to them endlessly when I was in High School. Never would have thought I would get to share a stage with them. For information and tickets please check out www.albertasown.com/
A few other shows added as well, so check those out if you can.
May 19th, 2007 (05/19/07)
Lots of news for this particular entry. New Web Page updates a plenty, three new shows in the next month or so, and finally some news about merchandise.
First of all, there is a new reprisal up. If you like watching the collapse (hopefully) of the extreme right, swing by, it's a gooder. Also, the live acoustic version of "Manual" has been posted as well, so if you've enjoyed the series thus far, download it, tell your friends spread the good word.
Secondly, there are a whole whack of new shows booked. The first is yet another evening of unreasonably loud fun at King Henry The VIIIth on June 8th. The second is at Dickens Pub with Roli Macks Bandwarz. As some of you know, these things are always just glorified popularity contests, so please come out and make it look like we have some friends. After that we have another night of semi acoustic fun at Jackdaws on June 22nd. Jackdaws is always a great time, so that's definitely not a show to miss.
Finally we have a merchandise lieup. We have two styles of shirts and hoodies for sale with the fun little logo pictured below. The shirts are short sleeve black, long sleeve white and black hoodies. They're all available in sm, med, large and extra large with the exception of the hoodies. One size only for them. But they're a one size fits all sort of thing.
For the time being, click on the thumb below and you'll see the logo. We'll have a store pictures of the shirts up in a couple of days, so stay tuned for that.
In regards to the webpage, there is also a new Reprisal and being that the new album isn't finished, we're posting videos of live shows to eat up our bandwidth for the time being.
Other than that, come out to one of the two upcoming shows if you can.
July 25th, 2006 (07/25/06)
New Shows added. Much in the works. More later. 'Nuff said for now.
June 12th, 2006 (06/12/06)
Continuing in the tradition of the somewhat rare updates in the "news" section, it's been a while but here's the skinny on the skinny...
So we've been busy re-tooling the sets and we're now ready to start playing shows that are more than the same old same old. We're starting to add on some of the songs that are in the works for the next album as well as some that we haven't played in a very long time.
We're also starting to branch out from the usual venues that we have been playing, so look for new shows prettty soon. We're also looking at finally playing some shows outside of the city, but that's still in the talking stages so we shall see what we see.
Recording of the new CD is moving, somewhat slowly, but moving nonetheless. Now that we have the ability to record on our own terms, we're taking our time.
There is a new reprisal and Wally's journey continues. Also, the Acoustic mix of Eulogy has been posted so if you want a different take on that take a listen.
There is also some video goodness in the works, so stay tuned for that...
April 8th, 2006 (04/08/06)
Been a while since I updated the "news" part of the site, so let's get down to business and leave it at that.
First of all, for those of you that have been paying attention, you may have noticed that The Nate Pike band has moved to a four piece. Mark has decided to leave the band to give him more time to pursue other interests. Now for those of you that have been really paying attention (all four of you), that's not Mark Steiger, he's still stuck in the mix and doing a damn fine job of it.
The band has taken a bit of a break from live shows in the last bit in order to rebuild the sets that we play, but it will be worth it rest assured.
In the battle of the bands that we played a while ago, we did reasonably well, and rumour has it that we just might be moving up into the finals. We shall see though, but stay posted.
Finally, after much effort, I'll be making a couple of appearances on the west coast next month. There are two acoustic efforts out in Victoria, and for the details on those, check outh the shows section. While most of you don't live out there, if you know anyone that does, please tell them to come out because I'll be a stranger in a strange land out there and it would be nice to play to slightly more than an empty room.
Other than that, it's all the usual, new reprisal, new download, kick about the site and see what you see...
February 16th, 2006 (02/16/06)
Much to be said in the comin days. For now, all you need to know is that there are two shows in the immediate future, one of which needs as much support as possible, and that "Throwaway" is still for sale. Further to that, the techo babble has now become clear to me so that you can now buy CD's directly off of the site. So come out to a show and tell your friends to buy CD's.
January 6th, 2006 (01/06/06)
So here's another year for you.
I owe some thanks; so let me pay those before I go any further...
First of all, thank you to all of you who have taken the time to forward on the site and the music. Thanks to your efforts, there were at least 4000 downloads from the site. Bear in mind that I can only track the top ten songs downloaded, so that number could be much higher. Either way, thanks to your efforts a whole whack of people were exposed to the music, and that?s a damn cool thing.
The site is now more than three years old, and for a site to maintain the kind of traffic that this site sees on a completely independent basis couldn't happen without the support of everyone who helps in spreading the word.
I could throw in a sentimental speech about the new year and such, but I hate that sort of glad-handing, so why bother? If after all of this time I haven't shown that the drama and the music won't stop for all the legions of hell, then? um?
Well it won't. Just trust me on that. I have the inside track.
To start things off right, there's a new CD. I've been talking about recording at home for a while now, and a couple of months back I bought the gear that I needed, so in the last couple of months I've been up to no good.
The new CD is called ?Throwaway?.
It?s a mix of old and new songs, with the old ones retooled to fit the acoustic style of the CD. It's got a nice demo feel to it that I quite like, so if you're looking for high production, you should maybe move on.
The first track I'm putting up is called "Road Song" and you can get it here (right click and save target as).
As for where you can get the CD, well live shows as always, but also, in the next month or so the site is going to be somewhat retooled to sell CD's online with Paypal. So, for those of you that can?t come to shows and still want to buy them, get a Paypal account if you don't have one already and you?ll be good to go.
The new Reprisal is up, it's a short piece but I am currently dealing with the gentrification of my neighbourhood and the eviction that came with it, so there should be more next month.
Finally, there's a show on the 28th at The Bar Fly. You should come out for it if you can.
Happy New Year to you all.
November 21st, 2005 (11/21/05)
I don't generally like to use this section of the page for political bits, but I feel like this deserves it.
First I would like to introduce you to John Murtha.
He was born in New Martinsville, West Virginia, and grew up in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania where as a youth he became an Eagle Scout. He also worked delivering newspapers and worked in a gas station before graduating from Ramsay High School in Mount Pleasant.
He left Washington and Jefferson College in 1952 to join the Marines during the Korean War. There he earned the American Spirit Honor Medal. He rose through the ranks to become a drill instructor at Parris Island and was selected for Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia. He then was assigned to the Second Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In 1959, then Captain Murtha took command of the 34th Special Infantry Company, Marine Corps Reserves, in Johnstown. He remained in the Reserves after his discharge from active duty until he volunteered for service in Vietnam in 1966-67, receiving the Bronze Star with Combat "V", two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He remained in the Reserves until his retirement as a colonel, receiving the Navy Distinguished Service Medal.
After his service, he ran a small business, Johnstown Minute Car Wash, attended the University of Pittsburgh on the GI Bill, and also attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, receiving a degree in economics. Murtha and his wife Joyce were married on June 10, 1955, have three children, and live in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
He was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1968 and served there until he won a 1974 special election for a seat in US House of Representatives making him the first Vietnam veteran to serve in Congress. Although the seat he won had been held by Republicans for 24 years, he has not faced serious oppostion in a general election since. His closest race was the 1980 general election where he had 59.6% of the vote against Charles A. Getty (R-Johnstown). This low number, for Murtha, was due to the general Republican victory of that year and Murtha being targeted in the Abscam investigation; it should be noted that Murtha was not indicted as a result of that investigation.
Murtha has been known as a hawkish Democrat, who supported the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. However, he has become increasingly critical of the war effort. On March 17, 2004, he called for a recorded vote on the "War in Iraq Anniversary resolution" then voted against it. The Republican sponsored resolution "affirms that the United States and the world have been made safer with the removal of Saddam Hussein and his regime from power in Iraq." Later that year, in May, he proclaimed the Iraq War problems are due to a "lack of planning" by Pentagon chiefs and "the direction has got to be changed or it is unwinnable."
On November 17, 2005, he created a firestorm when he called for the immediate redeployment of U.S. troops consistent with the safety of U.S. forces, the creation of a quick reaction force in the region, the creation of an over-the-horizon presence of Marines, and to diplomatically pursue security and stability in Iraq. Murtha then submitted the following resolution in the House of Representatives:
Whereas Congress and the American People have not been shown clear, measurable progress toward establishment of stable and improving security in Iraq or of a stable and improving economy in Iraq, both of which are essential to "promote the emergence of a democratic government";
Whereas additional stabilization in Iraq by U, S. military forces cannot be achieved without the deployment of hundreds of thousands of additional U S. troops, which in turn cannot be achieved without a military draft;
Whereas more than $277 billion has been appropriated by the United States Congress to prosecute U.S. military action in Iraq and Afghanistan;
Whereas, as of the drafting of this resolution, 2,079 U.S. troops have been killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom;
Whereas U.S. forces have become the target of the insurgency,
Whereas, according to recent polls, over 80% of the Iraqi people want U.S. forces out of Iraq;
Whereas polls also indicate that 45% of the Iraqi people feel that the attacks on U.S. forces are justified;
Whereas, due to the foregoing, Congress finds it evident that continuing U.S. military action in Iraq is not in the best interests of the United States of America, the people of Iraq, or the Persian Gulf Region, which were cited in Public Law 107-243 as justification for undertaking such action;
Therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That:
Section 1. The deployment of United States forces in Iraq, by direction of Congress, is hereby terminated and the forces involved are to be redeployed at the earliest practicable date.
Section 2. A quick-reaction U.S. force and an over-the-horizon presence of U.S Marines shall be deployed in the region.
Section 3 The United States of America shall pursue security and stability in Iraq through diplomacy.
So that's the skinny on the guy. Here's a couple of clips showing the man in action.
Rep. John Murtha Speech
Rep. John Murtha on Hardball
And finally, Here's the reaction to the his proposal by the congress floor...
Congress Debate on Whether to debate the motion...
And his Reaction?
Rep. John Murtha On Meet The Press
This guy has class, no wonder why he's buddies with Maclean. When even the hawks start calling for a withdraw, that's a pretty big deal. And from what I have read on my own, he also seems to have a pretty good idea on what is actually going on over there.
October 1st, 2005 (10/01/05)
Well after much talk and the questions of the naysayers, let it be known. The Nate Pike Band is back with a vengenance. There is an all now lineup, and as soon as we can convince the rest of the band to cough up their bios, you'll be the first to know all the ins and outs of history. In the meantime, you can entertain yourselves with the latest reprsial , it's a halloween special, and for those of you that like a little chill (albeit a little patience is required, it's a long one...), it's well worth the read.
Also, The really good news is that there are two shows on the horizon. The first is part of Roli Macs ongoing Bandwarz series which is at The Rusty Cage on Moday October 17th. This is a battle of the bands type event so your support is greatly needed. Come on out and support not only us but a couple of other bands as well.
The second show is a soon to be confirmed show at The Bar Fly. It's shaping up to be a haloween extravaganza, and as soon as we have solid details we'll post them as well.
Finally, there's a new download up as well you can now download "Machine" here (right click and save target as). Enjoy.
August 8th, 2005 (08/08/05)
It's been a while, but here's the skinny. Yes there is a new band, practices are up and running and in all hopes there will be some shows with the whole band starting sometime in September. Also, there's a new Reprisal with the continued story of Walter. Finally you can now download "The Firday After Next" here (right click and save target as) . Enjoy
June 14th, 2005 (06/14/05)
The long road is getting longer. There's a new reprisal, and a new download as well. Look them up if you like. I know Walter would like it if you did.
May 7th, 2005 (05/07/05)
If you're visiting the new site, welcome to it. I'm going to keep both sites up and running for the time being, so you can pretty much choose your poison from her on in. The new reprisal is up and yo can now download "today", so take a second from your day and enjoy.
April 4th, 2005 (04/04/05)
Well another month rolls around and I'm still trying to put a band together. In the meantime and in between time, there's a new Reprisal up, and it's a special one (to me at least) so if you find yourself with some time to kill, check it out. Also, following the natural progression from last month "tonight" has been added in the media section, and last but not least, there's a show at The Bar Fly on April 29th, so come down and say hi if you can.
March 7th, 2005 (03/07/05)
Well the CD is out and for sale finally. The CD release went reasonably well, and I have to thank Scott MacLeod for opening up the night again. Also, the media section has been updated with both "Revolution" and a video of "Tonight" as preformed on A-Channels "Wired". Big thanks go to Glenn and the rest of the A-Channel crew. Finally, the new Reprisal is up as well. Hopefully there will be some more show announcements soon, and just so you all don't lose faith, I'm in the process of putting together a new band, so look for that soonish.
February 18th, 2005 (02/18/05)
Yup, it's been confirmed that I'll be making an appearance on A-Channels "Wired" at 11:30 on Tuesday the 22nd. Set your VCR's and all that fun stuff. The good news is that for those of you that aren't local, I finally have the technology to post video and such, so look for a download of that preformance within a couple of days of the broadcast.
February 7th, 2005 (02/07/05)
Well it's finally here. This month, on the 25th I'll finally be releasing the CD that I have been talking about for the last alltogether too long. Scott MacLeod has been kind enough to agree to warm things up that night, so I highly recommend coming down. Scott's a great guy and plays some very good music. Just a couple of days before that, I'll be making an appearance on Calgary's A-Channel as well. It's been a long road to get here, but I have to say that I'm looking forward to finally releasing the bloody thing instead of just talking about it.
In other news, the new Reprisal is up, and you can now download ""Wave Goodbye" (right click and save target as) from the CD, "Revolution". I quite like it, and I hope you do as well.
January 13th, 2005 (01/13/05)
Not so much news, but I posted this earlier on The Firing Range, and I felt it deserved some more...
OK, this is going to be an unpopular idea, but I seriously have had enough of this self congradulatory money raising shit that's been going on for the last couple of days.
Don't get me wrong, I feel terrible for the victims of the tsunamis, but I think that we have well gone and crossed a line here.
You can't turn on the TV or the radio without some celeberity using this as an opportunity to get some exposure, and boy oh boy don't we all feel good about how much money we're all giving.
Doesn't that just make us good people?
I heard a woman who chairs a charity that does a great deal of work in africa talking on CBC the other day, and you could hear the frustration in her voice when she tried ever so diplomatically to say that while it was good that people are donating to aid in relief from the tsunamis, she felt obliged to point out that 20,000 africans die every day, so in just over a week, there's your tsunami.
Well it's been almost three since, and how many before that? That math scares me.
I could list of dozens of human disasters in the last twenty years alone that rival, equal or exceed the loss of lives in asia, but that's not the point. The point is that it's gone from aid to entertainment. Even worse, to me it feels like the reality TV that they wish they could do.
Maybe I'm a cyncic, but if you watched the CBC telethon tonight, I can't help but think that mixed with the "good intentions", there was also more than a little jockeying for airtime. And normally, I love CBC.
To me, if the tourists hadn't been on the frontline of this disaster, it would never have gotten the attention it has now.
One last thing.
Don't try and sell me your badly acted, pained emotion as a celebrity endorser when you can't even read off the fucking teleprompter.
Seems some things can still get me up and riled these days...
January 8th, 2005 (01/08/05)
First update in a while, but that's the way that things go. First of all, the big news to report is that the CD release for "Revolution" has been scheduled for February 25th at The Bar Fly. It's been a long time coming, but the new CD will (finally) be for sale at that show. For those of you that are out of towners, details will be released shortly on how to get a copy as well. Also, the new Reprisal is up and there is a new download available in the media section.
December 5th, 2004 (12/05/04)

November 1st, 2004 (11/01/04)
From this months Reprisal...
Things have gone and shaken themselves up again. That seems to be their nature and I suppose that is a good thing. I think it is. Common Ground, having lasted slightly more than a month, has split up. The simplest explanation is that the idea of common ground was an easier idea than a practice, and that for our own reasons, we have decided to go our separate ways.
The site has gone back to www.natepike.com, and I'm going to keep doing this thing that I do on my own. In all liklihood, I'll be limitied to acoustic shows for the time being, but that's ok by me really. Having played some acoustic shows a couple of weeks back, I have to say that I have missed it a lot. Hopefully, I'll see you all around.
September 12th, 2004 (09/12/04)
A busy month for Common Ground September is turning out to be. The band is playing a total of five confirmed shows this month, and you can find the skinny on all of those in the shows section. In addition, the new Reprisal is up and the next few days should finally see an update to the pictures section.

August 1st, 2004 (08/01/04)
As you may have noticed, there are a couple of changes around here... First of all the band has changed it's name to "Common Ground" and while the website is beginning to reflect that, look for more changes in the near future. There have also been several shows added to the shows section. The new reprisal should also be up shortly.

Jan. 19th, 2004 (01/19/04)
The pictures section of the webpage has been updated with pictures from the Jan. 9 & 10 shows. In addition the entire pictures section has undergone an overhaul, so it's a bit more interesting in there now. Nov. 8th, 2003 - Well wasn't that a suprise... (11/08/03)
November 6th was Nates Birthday. Much to his suprise, rather than being taken to the local megaplex to see "The Matrix - Revolutions, Nate was kidnapped and taken to Big Wally's, where a suprise party/show had been set up. Nate walked into the pub blindfolded, and after nearly tripping over some gear, found himself onstage and being handed a guitar. It was a great evening, and Nate managed to set a new record for himself : Three melted pics and seven broken guitar strings.
Nate would like to send a huge thanks to everyone who was involved setting this up (there are to many to mention by name, but you know who you are...), and here, compliments of some of the people attending, are some pics...

Oct. 22, 2003 - Halloween! (10/22/03)
Well The Halloween show at Big Wally's is a go. This will be an excellent night. Not only are the boys pulling out all the stops, and a couple of new songs, but there are costumes for prizes. The band will be in full dress, and Nate has put about 20 hours into his costume, so come on out. Rumor has it the team of Devin and Andy are going to strike again, so this is one you don't want to miss.
Oct. 10, 2003 - Housekeeping (10/10/03)
There is a new download available in the media section from the CD "Galleries". Also it seems the folks at TA Verns liked us enough that they're having us back on the 18th of this month. Also, video clips should be available soon in the media section as well, keep your eyes out...

Sept. 8, 2003 - New Reprisal (09/08/03)
New Reprisal, recording of the New CD begins tomorrow, Maelstrom has proven himself to be a far better drummer than he would ever claim. On that note, at the show on the 13th at Sams, there will be a merchandise table for the bands, so make sure you bring your sheckles...
August 29th, - More Shows (08/29/03)
Well it seems that we're picking up the pace again. There are three new shows to announce (my that sounds self important doesn't it...). Check out the shows section and you'll see when and where they are. As for things CD, plans to begin recording are now underway, and rest assured this new CD will mark something of a change for Nate. Soon enough, my pretties, soon enough...
August 16th, - Latest News (08/16/03)
Busy, busy, busy. Plenty of good news on this somewhat late coming update. First of all, and perhaps most importantly, The Nate Pike Band is very happy to welcome new drummer Maelstrom to the ranks. Maelstrom has been playing music for an incredibly long time, and not only brings his musical talents, but also years of experience and a personality that is pretty much unmatchable.
In other news, there are a couple of new shows to report. Nate will be playing an acoustic show on August 16th, and The Nate Pike Band will be opening for Johnny Incognito for a very special show at the Dubliner on August 20th. This is a very special show for a lot of different reasons, so if you can make it, do.
With the universe experiencing some degree of stability, look for new shows coming very soon. More details should be available soon about the upcoming CD, but in the meantime, check out this months Reprisal for a demo of one of the songs that will be off the CD, "Revolution".
July 12th - Online Store Open (07/12/03)
The Online store is now open! Click here to visit the new merchandise. There will be quite a bit more added in the coming days. Sadly, CD's still need to be ordered by sending a cheque or money order to the address in the contacts section, but we're working on figuring that part out as well... Also, the somewhat late reprisal for the month of July is now up, and for all the other details, the newsletter is being sent out later today.
July 4th - Update (07/04/03)
Nate and his management company have decided to part ways. On a happier note, Nate is reportedly enjoying his vacation on the West Coast to no end. More shows will be announced soon, but for the time being, Nate is enjoying his time off...Dave also is having a good old time, check out the forums for updates on his golf cart antics and his new advice column.
June 25 - BP's Show (06/25/03)

June 14 - Developments A Plenty... (06/14/03)
There have been some changes in The Nate Pike Band. Longtime friend and drummer Josh Gabel will be leaving the band at the end of the summer to pursue other interests. Dave and I wish Josh the best of luck as we beging the search for a suitable replacement. Also, recording of the new CD (tenatively titled "Living In Red") has started, and progress is being made. Don't forget to check out the show at T.A. Verns On June 18th... Good times for all.
May 30 - More Shows (05/30/03)
More shows have been added and will continue to be almost daily...keep checking back
May 26 - New Developments (05/26/03)
Well It's official, Nate has signed with Dan Cole for a management deal. Dan will be taking over the operations end of things so that nate can focus more on doing what he does. Dan brings years of experience to "the team" (God I can't believe I just said that...) and there should be nothing but good things to come. Keep your eyes open and your ears to the ground.
